Arm lift or Brachioplasty is a term describing the surgical removal of excess skin and fat from the upper arm. Two forms of arm lifts are routinely performed by Dr. Schlesinger.
Standard Brachioplasty. The full or standard brachiopasty is an incision running from the armpit to the elbow where excess skin and fat are removed. The resultant scar is on the inside of the arm. This reduces any loose skin on the outside of the arm, as well as tissue that may hang down from the tricep area (often referred to as bat wings). Surgery time is approximately one hour per arm. All stitches are removed within 5 days. Once again, surgery does not end at surgery. Tape is put on the scar to minimize it from spreading and getting heaped up and red. Dr. Schlesinger will continue to treat the area until you have the best possible scar your genetics will allow.
Axillary Incision with Dart. Here, loose skin on the arm is pulled from the upper arm and an ellipse is taken out at the armpit. A short dart of tissue is then removed up to 5 inches from the armpit. This excision plus dart provides a better result with less loose skin on the upper arm, and can be a very “cosmetic” procedure if done correctly. Dr. Schlesinger has lectured on his many innovations in this area. The EPD, or excision plus dart, is a lesser alternative to the aggressive, full brachiopasty and can have very cosmetic results.
