Gynecomastia (also known as “man boobs”) is a medical condition involving excessive breast growth in men. Excess fatty or glandular tissues may cause this and is fairly common in men age 50 and older. However, men of any age who are conscious of their looks can have a gynecomastia reduction procedure.
There are two ways to reduce the size of the breasts. One is liposuction which involves a small incision made in the breast so that fatty deposits can be suctioned out. The other method is to make a small incision around the areola and remove the excess breast tissues. In most cases, a suction breast reduction is all that is necessary to achieve the desired result.
Following the procedure, a compression garment will be provided to be worn for the next seven to ten days. Bandages are typically removed a day after surgery and no suture removal is needed. The chest may appear bruised and swollen at first but this will gradually decrease. Normal activities can be resumed after a few days but heavy exercises and strenuous activities should be avoided for two to three weeks following surgery. The chest may not achieve its final shape for about ten weeks and there is minimal scarring.
Results from our gynecomastia Hawaii male breast reduction include a stronger, firmer chest that many feel looks more masculine as well as increased confidence and a better self-image.
